What is over-the-road freight?
Over-the-road, or OTR, freight moves by truck over longer distances. Freight Nova offers dry van capacity inquiries across the contiguous United States in addition to its Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regional work.
The same 53-foot dry van format can serve a regional load or an OTR shipment. The planning difference is the complete trip: pickup readiness, driving and rest requirements, receiving appointments and what happens if a facility changes its schedule.
Which dates should I provide?
Give both the earliest ready time and the required delivery window. Label facility times with the local time zone and identify which appointments are already confirmed. If delivery is needed by a firm cutoff, state that clearly rather than selecting a general ship date alone.
FMCSA hours-of-service rules govern driver operating time. A passenger-car navigation estimate is not a truck transit commitment. Shipment timing is agreed after the full request is reviewed.
What belongs in the shipment brief?
- Exact pickup and delivery addresses, including facility names.
- Commodity, loaded weight, dimensions and packaging.
- Pickup readiness and delivery appointment status.
- Loading and unloading arrangements, including any special requirements.
- The contact at each location and any shipping references already issued.
For repeat loads, include frequency and forecast volume. For an unfamiliar commodity or handling requirement, explain it before the equipment is assigned.
Explore two OTR inquiries
The Chicago lane focuses on delivery windows, time zones and receiving references. The Atlanta lane focuses on facility details, unloading arrangements and recurring volume. These pages help prepare a useful request without pretending to quote a universal rate or transit time.
Request OTR capacity. A request is reviewed for availability; it is not a truck reservation or a delivery guarantee.
